What is Pharmacogenomics?

Pharmacogenomics (PGx) is a branch of medicine that combines traditional pharmacology with genetics to personalize medication. It involves analyzing a person's genetic code to determine how they will respond to different drugs and which ones will work best for them. This helps healthcare providers choose the most effective and safe medication for each individual, rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach. It's kind of like finding the perfect puzzle piece that fits your body just right!

Who is PGx for?

Anyone who:

  • Has a history of adverse reactions to medication
  • Takes multiple medications
  • Has chronic health conditions
  • Has complex health histories
  • Has a mental health condition
  • Struggles to find medicatons that work
  • Has been prescribed a new medication

How is PGx tested?

The process:

  • A saliva sample is taken, usually by cheek swab
  • The sample is sent to a lab to analyze and identify genetic variations
  • Results are interpreted by a PGx certified pharmacist
  • The pharmacist will make personalized recommendations to the client and their healthcare provider upon request
  • PGx test results can be used for a lifetime as an individual's genetics will not change
